Service Description:

This Esri image service contains global Landsat imagery from 1990-2010. This 30 meter resolution Landsat image service provides a natural color image rendition, while also reducing atmospheric influences and smoke. Vigorous healthy forest, irrigated agriculture and riparian vegetation are a vibrant green while stressed vegetation is a dull green. Coniferous forests are a darker, rich green, and deciduous forests are a bright green. Grasslands also appear green, bare soil is tan and mauve, while oranges and browns represent sparsely vegetated areas and dry areas. Urban areas appear in varying shades of magenta. Light green spots within urban areas indicate grassy land cover such as parks, cemeteries, and golf courses. Water is blue, while any burned areas appear red. This band combination is useful for geological, agricultural and wetland studies, as well as fire management and post-fire analysis of burned and non burned forested areas.

Time Enabled: Yes. (Start Time Field: GLS_START90_10; End Time Field: GLS_END90_10)

Data Source: This image service was compiled from Global Land Survey (GLS) datasets: 1990, 2000, 2005 and 2010. GLS datasets are created by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) using Landsat images. These global minimal-cloud cover, orthorectified Landsat data products support global assessments of land-cover, land cover-change, and ecosystem dynamics such as disturbance and vegetation health.
